Kerstin Lenhof

Professor @ Universitätsmedizin Göttingen & CAIMed (Lower Saxony Center for AI & Causal Methods in Medicine)

Since October 2025, I am a junior professor and head of the Integrative Bioinformatics group at Universitätsmedizin Göttingen and the Lower Saxony Center for AI & Causal Methods in Medicine. Prior this this, I was a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering of ETH Zürich hosted by Prof. Dr. Niko Beerenwinkel, after receiving my doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat., summa cum laude) from Saarland University for my PhD thesis 'Machine learning-based anti-cancer drug treatment optimization' supervised by Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Lenhof (incidental name similarity) in July 2024.
My research focuses on developing novel and trustworthy machine learning (ML) algorithms for oncological applications. Here, I am also particularly interested in how these technologies can support personalized medicine not only from a technical standpoint but also in terms of their societal impact. This includes exploring the ethical, legal, and social dimensions of ML-based decision support systems, especially questions of trust(worthiness) in clinical contexts. For me, ensuring the lawful, ethical, and robust implementation of these systems is not just scientific challenge but a societal imperative! If you want to dive deeper into my research, feel free to explore my GoogleScholar or ResearchSquare profiles. You’re also very welcome to reach out via email or LinkedIn. I’d be happy to connect!
